Apple finally launched the much awaited iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C on 10th Sep, 2013. They have retired the iPhone 5 however, iPhone 4S and 4 are still available in the market. This is the first time apple has launched two new iPhone’s at the same time in the market.

When you see both the phones and compare their features, you will see that there are following difference between the two phones. Some of the major differences are-

Price difference

Of course, this is an obvious point because iPhone 5C is meant to be a low budget phone with which Apple is trying to grab hold of the Asian market. In the UK market, where apple is still ruling they have launched their product at a whopping price of £720 (64 GB model) for iPhone 5S whereas iPhone 5C is available for £569 (64 GB model).

Difference in the processor

This is one of the major difference between the two phones. The iPhone 5S is the first 64-bit smart phone which is being launched with all-new A7 chip architecture. It also has an M7 Motion processor. That being said, the iPhone 5C has been launched with an A6 chip (it is technically an iPhone 5, with a new coat over the processor).

Storage

Another difference between the two is storage. The iPhone 5C has 16GB and 32 GB flavors whereas, iPhone 5 goes all the way up to 64 GB.

Design, dimension and the built

Design is another major comparison point between the two phones. iPhone 5C is radical departure for Apple. It is basically made of plastic, which is first for apple. It is shocking to see the quality of the product. This product also comes in a variety of colors (five in total). The iPhone 5C measures 124.4x59.2x8.97 mm and weighs 132g.

The iPhone 5S will be available in 3 metallic shades including a tone which is a reflection of gold. Dimensions of iPhone 5s are 123.8x58.6x7.6 mm and it weighs just 112g.

Features

These two phones are quite similar to each other in so many ways, but still there are some features which are different in both the products. iPhone 5S has a chip with 64 bit architecture and iOS7 was built for that architecture. The phone also has “fingerprint identity sensor” for better phone security. But all these features are missing from iPhone 5C.

Battery

One of the major drawback of apple phones are there battery. These two phones are coming in the market with built-in, non-swappable lithium-ion batteries. As per apple, the battery of both of the phones will almost give equal performance. The battery will last up-to 250 hours on stand-by and will have 10 hours of talk time. Web surfing will consume the battery in 8 hours on 3G and 10 hours on LTE and Wi-Fi.

Cameras

iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, both have two cameras. A front-facing FaceTime camera and a rear-facing camera. The iPhone 5C iSight camera has 8MP with ƒ/2.4 aperture and LED flash. 3x zoom is also available in the phone. The iPhone 5C's FaceTime Camera is capable of taking 1.2Mp photos at a resolution of 1280x960, and enables 720p HD video recording. The iPhone 5S iSight camera has better 8MP sensor.

Display

This is another vertical in which both the products almost looks very similar to each other. They both have 4 inch diagonal wide screen with multi-touch displays. There is no surprise in store for people who were expecting better screen resolutions from Apple this time.

This is the first time Apple launched two product at the same time. This event was also held live in China through video conferencing facility. They have launched this low and high segment phone with a hope to capture more share in Asian market. Now only time will tell how this product will be received in the market. We wish Apple all the best.

As mobile space is filled with multiple mobile platforms, it's critical and expensive to create mobile apps for different platforms. Cross mobile app development is the right approach to serve this objective.
